Sumit Singh Padam is a dedicated  sitar player specializing in the rich traditions of hindustani music. Trained under the guidance of his father S. Jasbir Singh Padam and guru  Pandit Harvinder Sharma ji, he brings a deep understanding of raga and tala. With a passion for preserving ancient techniques,  Sumit Singh Padam  blends tradition with thoughtful innovation.

Biography

Sumit has inherited his love for music and expertise in the field from his three generations old family tradition. His father Sh. Jasbir Singh Padam became his first teacher, who himself is an efficient Sitar and Tabla virtuoso. His grandfather Sh. Sohan Singh Padam, a graded artist of Sitar by All India Radio, was also an exemplary musician and a master craftsman of string instruments especially acknowledged for his proficiency in making instruments like Sitar, Tanpura and Dilruba.  Sumit is also learning Sitar with regard to the tradition of Guru Shishya Parampara, from his Guru Pandit Harvinder Kumar Sharma, a ‘Top Grade’ artist of Sitar by A.I.R/T.V and an acclaimed Sitarist, carrying the generations old legacy of his guru Ustad Vilayat Khan Saheb of Imdadkhani Gharana. Sumit is a High Graded Artist of Sitar by A.I.R/T.V has been rendering the magic of Indian Classical music from a long time and has acquired quite a reputation due to his performances at some of the most significant concerts across the country. Presently, he is working as an Assistant Professor in the faculty of Visual and Performing Arts, Department of  Music, Apeejay College of Fine Arts Jalandhar. However, he also has numerous awards and achievements, added to his name, which are testimonies to his success and growing esteem. The awards include ‘Sangeet Ratna Sammaaan, ‘Kala Nidhi Samman’, ‘Swar Sadhak Sammaan’,‘Kala Ratna Samman’ and ‘Rashtriya Kala Gaurav Samman’.
